Mariah Carey's New Year's Rockin' Eve 2018 Performance Was Totally Different Than Last Year

You may remember that last year, Mariah Carey's new year's performance at New Year's Rockin' Eve didn't exactly go as planned. "A disaster," a "mishap," and "a meltdown," were a few common phrases used to describe the performance, in which a sound malfunction led Carey to stop singing and simply walk around the stage, talking about how she couldn't hear anything. But never let anyone tell you that these mistakes can't be redeemed, my friends, or at least that one can't try, because Carey came back this year. Yes, Mariah Carey's New Year's Rockin' Eve 2018 performance has been much anticipated ever since it was announced she would return to the stage for another chance to ring in the new year right.

Now, last year, Carey removed her coat of white feathers, behind a fan of white feathers, after singing "Auld Lang Syne," and by the time she reemerged with a few back-up dancers at her side, the sound in her earpiece reportedly stopped working. As a result, Carey stopped singing and stood at the front of the stage in silence before saying, "Can't hear nothin'," "alright," and "Happy New Year, everybody." Things did not get better from there.

While Carey said that the problem was the sound, the Dick Clark Productions camp said it was because Mariah didn't want to do a proper sound check.

ABC News on YouTube

The pop star and vocal powerhouse ultimately took the whole thing in stride, responding on Twitter with a GIF of herself shrugging and a caption that said simply, "sh*t happens."

Sh*t does, indeed, Mariah, but this year, it simply didn't. Carey took to the stage at New Year's Rockin' Eve 2018 in a beautiful white fur, not entirely dissimilar to last year's, as if her outfit just might be a possible nod to last year's struggles. The singer pretty much freakin' killed it. And while rumors swirled about what Carey would sing, she did indeed come through with a little 'Hero' action, much to the joy of her fans.

While Mariah did ask for some tea at the end, likely because it is the coldest Time Square New Year celebration in NYC in 55 years, all in all things really went well. Hosts Ryan Seacrest and Jenny McCarthy spoke highly of her performance upon it's completion, and when Seacrest asked Carey how she felt about her performance after the fact, since there was simply so much buzz about it beforehand, she too, seemed pretty pleased by it all.

"Oh, I'm feeling a whole lot better than last year," the singer said, "when I had to get my own police escort to walk away."

Yeah, that's right, people were so upset about Mariah's performance mishaps last year that she needed even more security detail than normal.

But as you may imagine, Twitter reactions to this 2018 performance were plentiful, and mixed, despite the fact that any major problems were side-stepped.

Carey's fans came out with their support flags raised high after the singer's performance.

And it's true, she was here for it despite the freezing temperatures.

Nevertheless, not everybody let Carey go unscathed this year.

The whole asking for tea thing did make a Twitter splash.

But say what you will about the performance, I must say, I'm relieved it all went down pretty well and without any majorly unfortunate events this year for Mariah.

Because some people claimed Mariah's 2017 struggle set the tone for the absurdly challenging year that followed last year's performance.

So, if this is indeed true, if Carey's new year's performance predicts the coming year the same way Punxsutawney Phil's shadow on Groundhog Day supposedly predicts the length of winter, it appears we are in for a pretty okay year in 2018. Maybe one that even makes up for some of last year's mistakes. A girl can dream, right?

Happy New Year, my friends!

Tweets About BTS’ New Year’s Eve Performance Show Fans Are Going Wild

You may or may not have heard of BTS, the seven piece pop boy band from South Korea, and if you haven't, now you have, and you're welcome. Thanks to their hella catchy beats, very involved choreography, and often very matching outfits, Bangtan Sonyeondan brings to mind a very high-octane Backstreet Boys but like, so, so much better. Their popularity turned global this year, and continues to grow every time people catch on to their unique and pretty d*mn epic pop performances. And their performance this year for New Year's Rockin' Eve was no exception to their rule. The tweets about BTS proved that fans were definitely here for it, using the tag #BTSxRockinEve.

And in case you want a little more background about the band, their name actually translates to "Bulletproof Boy Scouts” and their album Wings was the highest-charting and best-selling K-pop album in the U.S. of all times. Not bad, amirite? These guys definitely know what they're doing when it comes to blowing the minds of pop-fans the world over.

Now, it may surprise you to learn that BTS's twitter relevance is not new or unique to new years, in fact, when Twitter turned out their 2017 data information detailing the most-tweeted about celebrities, BTS was number one. And this is in part due to BTS's legion of very, very, very devoted fans who refer to themselves as the ARMY, which is an acronym for Adorable Representative M.C for Youth.

And as you may have imagined, of course, the fans had been fiercely anticipating their new year's performance for some time now.

And yes, the ARMY went wild as the boys seemed to go at it harder than ever for new years this year, donning metallic jackets and jeans while they performed their song "DNA."

But while the moves and tunes caused a roar of satisfaction and joy in their fans, because, let's be honest, the dancing is simply unreal, others had a few questions as to whether or not their was some lip-synch action going on tonight.

The devoted BTS fans, however, were not having any of that.

In fact, the ARMY is all about telling the world that BTS should be praised for their Rockin' Eve singing and dancing without any questions from the crowd, thank you.

BTS is rolling into 2018 by gaining new fans by the second, here.

And although the boys often wearing matching outfits, for their new years performances they got just a little more individualized.

But the fans are more than happy with their fashion choices. The tanks tops indeed caused a few internet swoons.

And while the boys are purportedly friends, they have been known to add in a little drama to their performances.

Fans were, as the kids say, totally shook, and thrilled that the popularity of the K-Pop band is only growing.

And yet, despite all that, although this was definitely a new years win for the fans, the work is not over.

Yes, when it comes to their love for the band, and prepping them for a world takeover K-pop style, they must keep their eyes on the prize in 2018.

And yes, indeed, the ARMY does treat their love for the band kind of like a job, sending out smoke signals to others for tips and tricks on increasing the band's popularity. Now if that's not love, I simply don't know what is, my friends.

If the Army hasn't yet convinced you that your 2018 needs to be filled to the brim with BTS all the time, let this be enough to convince you that the band is here to stay.

Can you even believe these arm waves?

Happy New Years, everybody!

Happy New Year from SoraNews24!

2018 is officially underway in Japan!

In Japan, there are a couple of go-to options for celebrating New Year’s. Some people go to a temple or shrine to pray for health and happiness. Others visit relatives, meet up with friends, relax in a hot spring, or just sleep until noon.

We’re trying to check off as many items on that list as we can, plus a few others, such as eating as many New Year’s themed desserts as we possibly can (even though we’re still recovering from our Christmas KFC food coma). So you might be hearing a little less from us over the next few days. We’ll be back in action again soon, though…after all, those McDonald’s Japan caramel popcorn drinks that go on sale later this week aren’t going to drink themselves, right?

To all of you who visited our site in 2017, thank you from the bottom of our hearts, and we look forward to bringing you more news, both wonderful and weird, from Japan and Asia in 2018.

Millie Bobby Brown Has 11 Million Instagram Followers & Fans Can’t Handle It

If you haven't been watching Netflix's Stranger Things, what are you even doing? You get a pass only if you've been trapped in the Upside Down, everyone else pause what you're doing and go binge seasons one and two right now. OK, now that you're back, we're sure you have a lot of questions, as do we all, but we're also sure you're totally obsessed with Eleven. She truly is an iconic character, and Millie Bobby Brown who plays her is just as amazing. So, it totally makes sense that Millie Bobby Brown now has 11 million Instagram followers, and what a perfect number that is.

Of course, Eleven should have 11 million followers. We cannot believe this amazing actress is only 13 years old from all the Instagram-worthy content she is posting on the regular. If only we could get a few social media tips from her, we're sure we could have killer Instagrams as well. But then again, it doesn't hurt that Brown is also adored by millions of fans all over from her hit TV show that earned her both a SAG Award and Emmy nomination. Her fans are just as excited about the huge Instagram milestone as she is, and they started sending out their support and love via Instagram and Twitter.

Brown celebrated the milestone on her Instagram with a photo of herself and flowers from Don de Fleurs that spelled out her initials and her lucky number 11 in roses. She even captioned the picture, "11 MILLIEon." It's very punny, and now we know how this girl got to 11 million followers. We've all been there where we have the right photo, and are just stuck on what to caption it. Clearly, Brown doesn't have that trouble and we'll be looking to her for more Instagram caption help in the future.

It's actually not hard to see how she got so many followers with every great picture she posts. Yes, we're taking notes on how to have an Instagram account worthy of so many followers. We've learned the following lessons on how to have great content for our Instagrams, so we're up to the standards of Millie Bobby Brown.

Have Stunning Pictures Of Just Yourself

We all can't have Vogue photoshoots like Brown, but we can take note of the importance of a good shot of yourself. You can never go wrong with a flawless selfie on Instagram. So, here's some inspiration to remember when you're going for that photo of yourself for the 'gram.

Don't Forget To Post Pictures With Your Friends

It doesn't hurt that Brown's friends include the entire cast of Stranger Things, Drake, and Jimmy Fallon. If only we could get some of that star power in our pics, but your number one girl squad is just as much star quality to you. Along with your killer selfies, don't forget to post a few pics of yourself with your besties.

We really can't get over how great and adorable Brown is, and this huge milestone could not have gone to a better person. It's not the only huge accomplishment Brown has reached this year. Stranger Things Season 2 was released on Netflix in October, and Brown just received a SAG nomination and the series was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Drama Television Series. Brown has a lot to look forward to in 2018, and took the time to post this inspiring video to both her Instagram and Twitter celebrating 2017.

We just wanted to say congratulations to Millie Bobby Brown on your 11 million followers. If we could, we would send you 11 million Eggo waffles.

These Photos Of Donald Trump's Robot Head Photoshopped Onto His Pics Are Truly Terrifying

Disney fans everywhere were shook as all hell when Donald Trump finally made his appearance in The Hall of Presidents at the Magic Kingdom. The attraction had been shut down for over a year, and it seemed like it might never open again. It was as if the world might never get to see animatronic Trump in the flesh. Nevertheless, on Dec. 19, he made his debut, and let's just say animatronic Trump has a face we'll never forget. Now, Twitter user @bornmiserable has shared these photos of Trump's robot head photoshopped onto his pics, and they are truly terrifying.

When the animatronic made its first appearance, it got its fair share of criticism from Twitter. Some people were saying the robot Trump face looked more like Jon Voight. Others have circulated something of a conspiracy theory, which suggests that Disney Imagineers were hopeful of Hillary Clinton winning and started on her. Then, when the election night results came in, they had to quickly scramble and change the face to Trump's. The end result of this theory is a mashup of Clinton and Trump in one very odd-looking robot face.

No matter what you believe or how you feel about animatronic Trump, we can all agree the face is a little creepy — OK, maybe a lot creepy. Despite petitions to make the Trump robot silent and a protestor chanting "lock him up" during the show, Donald Trump's animatronic is here to stay at the "The Most Magical Place On Earth." It's not a very magical looking animatronic, so it's nice to find a little humor in such a terrifying sight to see. That's why we're dying over these photoshopped pictures from Twitter user @bornmiserable. He's taken some photos of real-life Trump we've seen before, and replaced his head with robot Trump's. After getting over the initial scare, you might be able to laugh at how ridiculous it all is.

Like, remember that time animatronic Trump made an appearance on The Tonight Show and Jimmy Fallon played with his robot hair? No? Well, here it is:

Or, how about all those golfing trips Trump keeps taking? We can't forget those, and here we have animatronic Trump casually standing on the fairway. He definitely looks like he's having a great time.

Even though these photos scared us half to death the first time we saw them, we're actually starting to like animatronic Trump way more than regular Trump. If only we could send the robot version of Trump out into the world to carry out all the presidential duties. Heck, maybe even the Donald would be down with that! It would definitely give him more time to tweet about real pressing issues, like global warming apparently not being a real thing. Just imagine a world where animatronic Trump gets to go on foreign trips instead of the real Trump.

Who knows, we might even have better foreign relations if we sent over a robot Trump. And while we're at it, we could even have robot Trump give all the speeches for real Trump! It would probably just be the pre-recorded speech that guests can listen to when they visit The Hall of Presidents attraction at Walt Disney World, but I'm sure it'll work anywhere.

The sheer thought of a world where animatronic Trump is the president kind of sounds like a way better version of reality overall. Maybe we can somehow find a way in 2018 to convince the real Trump that this is a good idea, and he'll hand over the reins.

Thank you, @bornmiserable, for sharing these photos. At first, we were scared, and then, we laughed. Now, we are hopeful. We truly went through a range of emotions there, which is something our dear friend animatronic Trump can't do. We'll leave you with these final photos of animatronic Trump replacing real life Trump, just because we can.

Is Champagne Good For Your Hair? You Might Not Get Tipsy, But It'll Look Shiny AF

For my 21st birthday, I had a small get-together of five people at my friend's apartment and quietly drank from a bottle of Jameson and ate vegan cake. But for one woman, spilling champagne on her hair at her 21st birthday party changed her entire life. Is champagne good for your hair? The answer will make you want to take a Veuve shower this New Year's Eve.

On her 21st birthday, Rachel Katzman was living the good life in Vegas. She was partying it up with some champagne, as one is apt to do when they reach legal drinking age. The bottles were popping and champagne was spilling everywhere, even onto her hair (seems like a scene straight out of The Great Gatsby, no?). That's when Katzman discovered that champagne made her hair silky, soft, and texturized. She knew then that she was on to something. Why weren't we washing our hair with champagne?

It wasn't the first time the idea had been tossed around. Nearly a century ago, magazine bigwig Diana Vreeland wrote an infamous column for Harper's Bazaar. Her Why Don't You section featured "extravagant ideas for the modern women." In one particularly memorable column, Vreeland wrote "(why don't you) rinse your blond child's hair in dead champagne to keep it gold, as they do in France?"

Vreeland was of course referring to the flat champagne left over from the parties at the lavish apartments with famous faces that she so often frequented. Even at that time, champagne was known to enhance highlights and increase shine. So why hadn't any hair care brands jumped on this decadently luxe trend in the past 80 years? We common folk might not be able to rinse our hair daily with $100 bottles of flat champagne like Vreeland, but we can certainly splurge on a shampoo featuring this key ingredient.

So Rachel Katzman, being the enterprising 21-year-old she was, found a missing niche in the market and lunged at it. After three years of trial and error with different labs and ingredient combinations, Katzman developed her signature Cuvée Beauty Complex, which consists of champagne extracts (of course), white truffle extracts, platinum extracts, hair ceramides, resveratrol, and pea proteins. The champagne extracts act as antioxidants to protect against free radical damage and give the hair its silky texture and shine. The other ingredients help to retain moisture, make the hair strands, stronger, and more. Each and every product in Katzman's Cuvée Beauty line contains the specially formulated Cuvée Complex to give you that shiny rich hair with just one rinse.

The name Cuvée is even an ode to the product's champagne roots. In the world of bubbly, cuvée refers to the "first-pressed and most desirable juice." So basically, Katzman is promising that her product is truly the Dom Perignon of haircare. How sweet.

Where does one start when switching to a champagne-infused haircare routine? Well, there are shampoos ($35; cuveebeauty.com) and conditioners ($38; cuveebeauty.com) of course. Thorough clinical testing, Cuvée Beauty shampoo and conditioner system was proven to make hair twice as strong with 50 percent less breakage. Who knew champagne packed that much punch? Not only can it get you really tipsy really fast, it can also make your hair really strong.

Cuvée Beauty also offers a Champagne Spray ($45; cuveebeauty.com) which texturizes hair to off-duty-model effortless perfection. Huda Kattan, the well-known founder of Huda Beauty, has been singing the praises of this stuff. Though Kattan didn't care for the scent, there are a slew of reviews from consumers who've purchase the product for the delicious scent alone.

So if you're ready to embrace all that champagne has to offer this NYE, then hop online and order some Cuvée Beauty champagne hair care stat. Just soak in the tub with a glass of champagne in one hand and champagne shampoo in the other. Embrace the bubbly in every way possible, that's my motto for 2019.

The tragedy of Mononofu, the functional two-and-a-half-story bipedal robot【Pics & Video】

From its creation to its usage, this giant robot is undeniably awesome, but there’s just one problem.

Robots have come a long way recently, getting involved in everything from dinner theater to evaluating foot odor to sports entertainment, but the dream of a giant bipedal humanoid robot that people can ride in has still somehow eluded us.

However, due to our past coverage of Sakakibara Machinery in Gunma Prefecture, our roving reporter Mr. Sato was granted a special look at what he was told would be a special new robot. Some of you may remember Landwalker, Sakakibara’s bipedal metal gear that they started in the early 2000s and makes frequent appearances in the festival circuit.

▼ Landwalker circa 2014

However, this time they told Mr. Sato that they had something they wanted to show him that would blow Landwalker out of the water. It piqued Mr. Sato’s curiosity enough that he jumped in the car and made the 2.5-hour drive out to the rural prefecture of Gunma to see it.

Mr. Sato emerged from the car in the slight haziness of prolonged highway driving and walked around the Sakakibara lot looking for this new machine. Finding nothing, he decided to peek into an open warehouse. Inside all he could see were some materials and tools, when suddenly he heard a voice say, “Sorry.”

Startled, Mr. Sato turned around and saw Sakakibara Machinery’s Masaaki Nagumo. “I’ve been waiting for you,” he said, “I’m very sorry to call you out so far, but I’m glad you made it.” He then gestured for our reporter to look behind him.

It took a minute for Mr. Sato’s weary eyes to adjust until…

“Eh?!”

“Ehhhhhh?!”

“EEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHH?!”

Behold, LW-MONONOFU Type 2 Land, but you can call it Mononofu. At a height of 8.5 meters (28 feet) and weight of over 7 tons, it was as close to an actual Gundam-style mobile suit as he had ever come.

It was huge next to the already large Landwalker and simply dwarfed Mr. Sato who I suspect is lying about his weight.

“Is it real?” asked Mr. Sato, to which Nagumo pulled out a remote control. “I can open it with this,” he explained.

Upon pressing the button, a hatch in the back opened up and a pair of what looked like swings descended. Nagumo climbed on them and rode them up to the hatch.

Mr. Sato exlaimed, “That is SO FREAKING COOL!!!” The drowsiness of his drive was now completely washed away by a childlike enthusiasm in the presence of Mononofu.

Inside the cockpit the control layout was surprisingly simple. Nagumo explained that all of the robot’s actions we automated and executed by a single button press.

Movement of the robot’s legs were controlled by the left pedal and movement of the upper body was handled by the right pedal.

There were four monitors displaying each side of Mononofu.

Although there was a transparent windshield, visibility was highly limited and there was no way the driver could even see where they were stepping, so the video display is a must.

Now it was time for a demonstration. Mr. Sato exited the cockpit and set up his camera.

Instagram Photo

It’s movement was eerily smooth, as if it had wheels on the bottom. However, its knees appeared to be moving as if it were walking. Nagumo later explained that Mononofu does have wheels but isn’t driven by them. Rather it uses its pelvis and knees to move forward and backward along the wheels.

▼ Bringing new meaning to getting one’s butt in gear.

In other words, it’s a giant roller-skating robot. In the demonstration it couldn’t go far because it was plugged into the wall for power. Mononofu has an onboard battery, but it doesn’t last long, and you try pushing a seven-ton robot back to the nearest wall-socket.

This might be a little disappointing to those expecting the greatest weapon known to mankind, but everything about Mononofu, from its simple controls, to its smooth ride, to its AC 200V power supply is all done by design.

And most impressive of all: it was done almost single-handedly by Nagumo for the past six years!

You might have wondered why a robotics company was based way out in the sticks of Gunma. Well that’s because Sakakibara is actually a farm machinery company creating equipment such as feeding machines and automatic soil aeration.

However, the agriculture business as we know it has been on the decline for quite some time, so Sakakibara decided to diversify into amusement machines, utilizing their know-how of safety and ease of use that goes into their farming equipment.

Mononofu was to be the epitome of this effort: a truly giant robot that even a child could use, and thus arguably the greatest toy known to mankind.

So in that way Mononofu is a rousing success story of adapting to changing business climates and plain old ingenuity. However, if you remember, this article was titled the “tragedy” of Mononofu….

It seems Nagumo may have gotten a little too carried away with his work, or perhaps he never even thought he could accomplish this to begin with, because somehow Mononofu became larger than the door to the warehouse. This means that it can’t go outside without them either dismantling it or the building itself… of course smashing out in dramatic fashion shouldn’t be completely off the table either.

Even beyond that, transportation of the giant robot to birthday parties and county fairs still remains a logistical challenge, but if someone can send a 30 meter (98 foot) Christmas tree across the country only for it to be chopped up into little trinkets, there’s hope for Mononofu yet.
