Samurai C-3PO is the Japanese warrior droid we’ve all been waiting for
Complete with gold armour and topknot.
It’s been a few years since Bandai’s Tamashii Nations first wowed the world with its awesome Star Wars samurai figurine series. Created by master modeller Takayuki Takeya, the collection saw iconic characters like Darth Vader, Boba Fett, Stormtroopers, and the Imperial Royal Guard all transformed into legendary Japanese warriors, complete with highly accurate details that made these some of the most sought-after collectibles on the market.
Now it’s time for another Star Wars character to get the samurai treatment, and it might just be their best idea yet, as the new figurine on the scene is crowd favourite C-3PO!
▼ Say hello to Samurai C-3PO.
The comedic translation droid is perfectly suited to the Edo Period crossover, with Takeya making a few adjustments to C-3PO’s metallic gold exterior to recreate the armour of a samurai warrior.
▼ “It is I, C-3PO! You probably do not recognise me because of the… samurai pants.”
C-3PO’s mechanical parts are visible underneath the armour, which has been embellished with feudal period details, while his silver leg has been given a samurai-style makeover. The droid’s usually smooth face has been given the world-weary look of a hardened lord, with a furrowed brow and pursed lips adding character to his appearance.
From behind, we can see how the beautifully designed samurai pants cover his thighs, with a shiny, curved piece of armour used to protect his butt. Around his waist is a rope, from which a gourd water carrier and oversized key hang.
▼ “Wait. Oh my! What have you done? I’m backwards you filthy furball.”
The figurine is fully poseable, including the eyes and mouth, and comes with a fan and additional hand parts, which allow you to have fun twisting Samurai C-3PO into a variety of hilarious poses and scenarios.
▼ Use the fan, C-3PO.
C-3PO stands at 18.5 centimetres (7.3 inches) in height and is currently available online at a recommended retail price of 9,504 yen (US$86.61).
We’re hoping the new release means there’ll be more crossover figurines coming our way soon, possibly featuring more Marvel warrior characters to join the ranks of Samurai Spider-Man.
