With the Japanese reverence for aesthetically pleasing food, it’s no surprise that candy crafting artisan Shinri Tezuka has made a name for himself with his fantastic sugar creations. As we reported previously, he has been in charge of his own shop, Asakusa Amezaiku Ameshin, since 2013, and is perhaps best known for his incredibly lifelike candy goldfish.

Since our last report, Tezuka has been so busy raising his profile by appearing on numerous Japanese television shows and at various events, he’s now been able to open up a second store, right underneath Tokyo Skytree!

The new store was officially opened on July 31. Named Asakusa Amezaiku Ameshin Tokyo Skytree Town Soramachi Branch, the opening of the store was announced on Tezuka’s official Twitter account, @candy_ameshin.

▼ The official announcement

▼ Camera crews are a common sight as the new store has already been featured on various television programmes, including NHK news.

▼ Tezuka hard at work in the new store. Lucky customers will be able to catch him in the act of crafting his candy creations.

▼ The summer-themed ‘uchiwa’ (fan) lollipops

▼ The designs of the lollipops change from season to season, and correspond to aspects of Japanese nature. Below is the autumn collection.

▼ The Skytree branch is also the only place you can buy the limited “bon bon” candies

But of course, Tezuka is also still busily working on a variety of animal creations, including:

▼ Shells and claws

▼ Dogs

▼Dolphins, pigs and bears

▼ Frogs

▼ And, of course, more exquisitely carved fish!

Why not combine a visit to the tallest tower in the world (at the time of writing, at least!) with the opportunity to stock up on the kind of stunning sweets that’ll have your friends and family slavering with envy?
