Japanese artists display their creative skills using “10-line game” on Twitter

These artists create beautiful anime-style characters from a simple foundation of 10 random lines.

When artists find themselves stuck for inspiration, or if they’re looking to create a unique and original character, there’s a simple tip that can help them on their way. By drawing 10 randomly placed lines on a blank canvas, a number of possibilities immediately become available, creating angles and ideas that promptly open the door to a new creation that might otherwise have never seen the light of day.

Illustrators who’ve tried this approach are tweeting their works of art with the hashtag #10本ゲーム (10-line game), and the images they’re producing are absolutely beautiful.

It’s interesting to see how the lines can influence the direction of the character’s movement and even inspire unique costume details.

Sometimes the lines even give birth to an image containing more than one character.

While the sketches are gorgeous, some artists choose to go all the way, adding a variety of colours to really bring the illustrations to life.

With so many beautiful images being created, we’re inspired to try the technique ourselves! If you’d like to join in the fun of the the ten-line game, be sure to add your pictures to the growing collection on Twitter, and include the hashtag #10本ゲーム.
