Bella And Gigi Hadid Dressed Like Real-Life Paper Dolls For A Fashion Show

Life as a model isn’t easy, especially if you happen to be wildly famous on the side. Supermodel sisters Bella and Gigi Hadid are no exception.

During Moschino’s Milan Fashion Week show yesterday, creative powerhouse Jeremy Scott quite literally played with the idea of models as mannequins. Stand still, look pretty, don’t pop too many pills or people will notice. Them’s the rules.

Scott’s become well-known for his heavily themed runway shows, so the audience was waiting to be awed.

Then, Gigi Hadid took the runway dressed as a naked paper doll. You know, like the cheap paper kind your parents probably bought you in the early ’90s to keep you quiet in the airport.

The show — reportedly inspired by “Valley of the Dolls,” Jacqueline Susann’s 1966 novel about three female friends trying to make it to the top — was weighty with meaning.

The Hadid sisters, alongside models like Taylor Hill, Irina Shayk and Lindsey Wixson, carried two-dimensional accessories and walked the runway in dresses complete with fold-over tabs.

Bella, particularly, modeled plenty of painted throwback Moschino looks.

Fashionista reports the show’s notes even included a line from “Valley of the Dolls,” proving it inspired the outfits on the runway.

“You’ve got to climb to the top of Mount Everest to reach the Valley of the Dolls. It’s a brutal climb to reach that peak, which so few have seen.”

“You stand there. Waiting for the rush of exhilaration; but, it doesn’t come. You’re alone and the feeling of loneliness is overpowering.”

Dark stuff, particularly since the show happened just after a protestor forcefully grabbed Gigi on the streets of Milan in an attempt to stick it to Vogue editor Anna Wintour.

Deep meaning aside, seeing all those paper tabs makes me itchy to fold them over. They’ll effectively become useless after a few tries, and none of the doll’s dresses will stay on anymore.

Ah, childhood. Nostalgia never gets old, so kudos to Moschino on this one.
