Japanese artist blows everyone away with amazing blackboard art

From Picasso to the hotly anticipated Japanese anime film, Your Name, these incredible chalk masterpieces will take your breath away.

If you’re a fan of animated films, there’s one Japanese movie you should know about this year, and it’s called Kimi no Na wa, or Your Name for its international release. The hotly anticipated film, which follows the story of a girl from the countryside and a boy in Tokyo who switch bodies in their dreams, is said to have earned 1.2 billion yen (US$11.51 million) in its first three days in Japanese theatres, and its writer-director, Makota Shinkai, is being hailed as the “next Hayao Miyazaki” for his beautiful visual style.

With a worldwide distribution scheduled, one of the main promotional images from Your Name is soon to become recognised in more than 80 countries globally. The picture depicts the two central characters, Mitsuha and Taki, on a set of stairs, crossing each other’s paths in a beautifully animated scene that has him covered in dappled sunlight as a view of the Japanese cityscape opens up behind them. The image captures the atmosphere of the movie so well that it’s become a favourite with fans, and as with any inspiring moment from an anime film, the picture has now been replicated as a stunning work of blackboard art.

The amazing artwork above is proving to be so popular it’s received over 70,000 likes and more than 40,000 retweets in just a matter of days. The artist who created it, known as @hamacream on Twitter, did so after one of his students requested it for their open day cultural festival. Since appearing online, the blackboard art has everyone sitting up straight and paying attention, leaving comments like:

“OMG, this is amazing!”
“I can’t stop looking at it.”
“I want to go and see this in real life!”
“I loved this scene! Looking at this is bringing up feelings from that beautiful movie again.”
“Please don’t ever rub this off the blackboard!”

Looking at the artist’s Twitter feed, this isn’t the first time he’s impressed everyone with his incredible blackboard drawing skills. Previously, he’s sent his students off with gorgeous “Happy Graduation” messages.
