All aboard the Kobe Disco Train! Runs from Tanigami to Okaba Station with a stop at Funkytown

If the name is any indication, the Kobe Disco Train promises to be a more uptempo and commercially viable version of a soul train.

On 17 December the Kobe Disco Train will ride the rails with all the glitz and glamour of the solid gold era of dance music. This four-car train will be decorated top to bottom in all the trappings of a discotheque minus the rampant cocaine use and puddles of Jheri curl activator.

The first 180 eligible applicants will get a spot on the train after purchasing a 3,900 yen (US$34) ticket which includes one drink order and a free gift of a bottle of sparkling sudachi (a lemon-like Japanese citrus fruit) drink and a 180-milliliter serving of Shiboritate Ginpakku sake.

Five lucky riders of the Disco Train will also be entered to win a meal for two at the Sanda Hotel in Sanda City, Hyogo.

Of course, what would a Disco Train be without some vintage disco music? This two-hour-forty-minute party ride will be swinging with the biggest hits of the 70s and 80s. These songs all come courtesy of the DJ, Tarzan Yamashita of Kiss FM Kobe who appears to be more than ready for this trip back in time.

This is actually the third time the Kobe Disco Train has run and in the past it has proven to be a hit with young people who have never experienced an actual disco before. No word on old people like myself who have also never experienced an actual disco because it was still before our time, but it should be a blast anyway.

If you want to take part in this nostalgic party ride, be sure to apply before 14 December at the website linked below. This may be the third Kobe Disco Train but you never know when it will be the last and dead as…um, swing music.
