Ramen-flavor cooking sauce now on sale from one of Japan’s favorite noodle chains

Tonkotsu ramen flavoring isn’t just for noodles anymore.

Not only does ramen chain Ippudo serve some of the tastiest noodles around, it works incredibly hard to make sure as many people as possible can partake of its culinary stylings. Previous projects have included in-flight ramen meals, overseas expansions, and even free ramen days, and now Ippudo has come up with a whole new way to enjoy its signature flavor.

Ippudo is releasing a cooking sauce made with its famous Fukuoka-style tonkotsu (pork stock) ramen broth. Called the Ippudo All-Purpose Cooking Sauce, this isn’t something designed to be poured into a cup of instant noodles (although no one’s stopping you from going down that avenue if you so desire). Instead, Ippudo recommends adding it to dishes such as fried rice, stir-fried vegetables, or even hot pots in order to give them an extra dash of tonkotsu appeal.

▼ All of these stand to benefit from becoming more like ramen, Ippudo asserts.

Ippudo All-Purpose Cooking Sauce goes on sale December 1 at Ippudo branches in Japan as well as through the Ippudo online store, priced at 400 yen (US$3.50) for a 330-gram (11.6-ounce) bottle (though oddly, the Ippudo branches at JR Shizuoka, Hamamatsu, and Nagoya Stations won’t start selling it until January 1).

Ordering in large volumes doesn’t get you any discounts, but if Ippudo’s cooking sauce tastes anywhere as delicious as its ramen broth, you might want to put in a bulk order anyway, so that you don’t run out after you start adding it to every meal you make.
