American Kirby is hardcore, but Japanese Kirby is panties【Photos】

Further proof that the beloved, globular Nintendo video game star is marketed very differently in the two countries.

You might not guess it from looking at him, what with his skin being as smooth and unlined as ever, but Kirby, star of the Nintendo-published franchise, is celebrating his 25th year in the video game industry. Kirby of the Stars (renamed Kirby’s Dream Land for English-speaking territories) came out for the Game Boy on April 27, 1992, and to mark Kirby’s quarter-century milestone, Japanese lingerie brand Yummy Mart is releasing a line of Kirby-themed intimate apparel and accessories.

Starting things off are the Kirby panties, priced at an affordable 1,680 yen (US$15).

▼ “Kirby of the Stars” is written across the front in Japanese text.

If you’re looking for a top-and-bottom set, 4,980 yen will get you a bustier and pair of panties that bear Kirby’s name but not his image.

For lounging about the house, there’s the 5,980-yen pajama set

Prefer a one-piece look? Yummy Mart has you covered with a 3,980-yen mini dress, though the short hemline is only one of the reasons it’ll take a certain amount of courage to wear if other people are around.

And rounding off the collection are two choice pieces of non-clothing Kirby merch: the 1,680-yen eye mask

…and 3,980-yen backpack.

The whole lineup will be available from April 26 through Yummy Mart’s online shop, but the very first place you can get your hands on these items will be at Yummy Mart’s retail location in Tokyo’s Harajuku neighborhood, which will start selling the collection on April 22. Like Yummy Mart’s Pikachu panties from last year, quantities are likely to be limited, so you’ll want to move fast if you want to suck up some of this unique Kirby merch.
