Tokyo Governor joins Piko Taro for new version of PPAP 【Video】

The surprising collaboration aims to draw attention to a new environmental initiative.

Ever since Piko Taro burst onto the music scene with his viral hit “Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen“, the exuberant star has been collaborating with all sorts of celebrities, performing different versions of his original hit with the likes of Elmo and Cookie Monster, and appearing alongside his number one fan, Justin Bieber and South Korean superstar Psy.

Now it’s time for a more serious – yet equally entertaining – collaboration, this time featuring the governor of Tokyo, Yuriko Koike. Produced by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, the short clip aims to help promote a new environmental initiative, where residents living in Japan’s capital will be able to exchange two regular lightbulbs for a free energy-saving LED bulb.

Watch two regular lightbulbs turn into a bright and shiny LED one in the clip below:

In the clip, Koike shows she’s not afraid to bust some fun moves for the sake of energy conservation.

Piko Taro’s original concept of combining two types of fruit to create a Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen displays its never-ending versatility once again, as the dancing duo take a couple of lightbulbs and turn it into a brand new one.

▼ “I have a lightbulb, I have a lightbulb – Uh! – LED lightbulb.”

▼ Combining the LED lightbulbs creates a green heart of “energy conservation“.

The “energy conservation movement” is set to begin from 10 July, with Tokyo residents encouraged to exchange their old bulbs for the more energy-efficient LED variety at participating electronics stores, which will be listed on the official site in the near future.
