Four Japanese women chosen for world’s 100 most beautiful faces, four men make handsome list

Satomi Ishihara included in group of eight Japanese idols, actors, and entertainers chosen as among the most attractive in the world.

This week, the selections for the TC Candler 100 Most Beautiful and 100 Most Handsome Faces were revealed. The annual list counts down the organization’s picks for the most attractive faces from the worldwide entertainment and modeling industries.

Filipino-American actress Liza Soberano and Korean pop star Kim Tae-hyung (also known by his stage name, V) were chosen as the top picks, but four Japanese women and four Japanese men also made the lists.

Sana Minatozaki, member of idol group Twice, captured the 21st spot on the Most Beautiful Faces list, the highest ranking for any Japanese national this year.

▼ Coincidentally, Minatozaki turned 21 on December 29, just a few days after being chosen as having the 21st most beautiful face in the world.

Actress Satomi Ishihara, who was prominently featured in the live-action Attack on Titan films and Shin Godzilla, has become a regular fixture on the TC Candler list, with this year’s #34 ranking being her fifth salute.

On the other hand, actress Nana Komatsu, who appeared in the live-action JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure film and is scheduled to appear in two more manga-based adaptations in 2018 (Kids on the Slope and Love Is Like After the Rain), is a newcomer at #38.

And finally, half-Japanese, half-American fashion model and media personality Niki Niwa made the list at #84.

Moving on to the men, Japan’s most handsome face belongs to #42, actor and model Takuya Tereda, who’s also a member of South Korean-based boy band Cross Gene.

Also a male idol singer, #66 Jin Akanishi (formerly of the band KAT-TUN) has dabbled in television and stage acting as well.

#81, actor Kento Yamazaki, has actually worked with #38 Most Beautiful Face Komatsu, as he played the lead role in the live-action JoJo movie.

And rounding off Japan’s eight honorees is #96, Takanori Iwata, an actor with a dance background who’s appeared in films from the Crows and High & Low franchises.

Fans of former AKB48 idol Nana Owada, idol-turned-actress Kanna Hashimoto, and actress/model Mirei Kiritani, all of whom were early nominees for the Most Beautiful Faces list, are no doubt sad to see them left out of the final top 100, but can look forward to them possibly getting full recognition next year.
