Japanese supermarket’s recruitment ad is so stringent, it’s probably looking for a robot

Because no sane person would want to work in this environment.

Japan’s aging population and depressingly low birth rate has sent the country into a slow spiral, where companies are constantly trying to recruit from a diminishing source of able-bodied men and women.

And if the general lack of helping hands wasn’t enough, one supermarket is looking for a superhuman according to Japanese Twitter user @akasofa. Unlike others of its kind, the requirements on this ad bordered on the insane.

▼ Are you the Superman this supermarket is looking for?
(Translation below)

“We’re recruiting super-unemployed individuals who:

● Can work any shift in a 24 hour period
(We also welcome people who work 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.)
● Prefer not to take days off (about one or two days per month)
● Don’t need to travel or have extended holidays!
● Will not be late or skip work!!
● Wish to liven up the store!!

We warmly welcome all unemployed people who are filled with overflowing passion to work tirelessly!!
Shift work will be prioritized!! (Four to five days a week)

There’ll be salary raises too, depending on how hard you work \(^o^)/
For more details, please speak to our front desk staff!
This ad will run until we get the people we need. Now’s your chance!!”

Noticeably absent from the recruitment ad was the hourly wage, an important piece of information most people would want to know before being thrown in at the deep end.

▼ So they’re not looking for a superhuman, but a slave instead?

Japanese netizens were astounded by the sheer audacity of the supermarket in expecting so much commitment from workers with almost no days off:

“They’re just looking to use and crush people.”
“It’s amazing how they list all those requirements without a single mention of hourly wage. What nonsense.”
“This is an ad looking for disposable humans.”
“Now’s your chance? What chance are they talking about?”
“You’re better off taking your chances with a black company instead.”

As hourly wages are regularly listed on recruitment posters, only the most desperate of applicants who are willing to forgo holidays like Golden Week or the new Shining Mondays would want to give this supermarket a shot. Looks like this ad won’t be going away any time soon.
