Japanese scientist creates neon udon: “This is the worst thing I’ve ever seen on the internet!”
We’ve seen some pretty crazy and colorful food here before on RocketNews24. We’ve witnessed flaming-red burger buns and ocean-blue curry, but never before have we seen something that’s basically the equivalent of eating a neon sign.
Until now. One Japanese Twitter user/mad cooking scientist created “electrical udon” and uploaded pictures for the world to recoil at the sight of. Why did he create this beautiful monstrosity? And most importantly, what does it taste like?
Japanese Twitter user @reraku, a self-proclaimed “bad scientist,” invented what he calls “electrical udon.” Here’s the Tweet he posted with pictures of his horrifying-yet-tantalizing creation: (Click to enlarge.)
▼ “These are bright! My ‘electrical udon’ for an event at the end of the month. (Tastes like normal kitsune udon.)”

Even though the cook himself claims they taste like normal udon, as we’ve seen before it’s hard to imagine that your brain or tongue wouldn’t be influenced by the rainbow of colors making their way into your mouth. If the noodles even make it that far in the first place, of course.
Still, if you’ve suddenly found yourself with an insatiable urge for some udon that looks like it’s glowing in the dark, and you happen to live in the Osaka area, then head over to the “Unbelievable Science” festival on August 30 where this unusual dish will be featured. There will be other strange dishes served there too, like purple curry and fried food “pumped up with flavor steroids.” Uh, maybe watch out for that last one.
▼ Here’s the poster for the event. We can only assume giant mushroom staffs are on the menu too and they will be brought to you by a zombie maid.
Of course Japanese netizens had a few things to see about this neon sign-inspired udon:
“I wonder if I would actually be able to eat it….”
“Just looking at it is making me a little sick.”
“Oh! Ew! No! This is the worst thing I’ve ever seen on the internet!”
“I feel like I’d start glowing if I ate it.”
“They should serve this at clubs so it’d glow under the blacklight.”
So what do you think? Would you eat neon-colored udon? Or, if you’re even more adventurous, what’s the weirdest-looking thing you’ve ever eaten? Let us know in the comments!
