Study Finds Men Are Intimitdated By Intelligent Women

Intelligence is sexy — at least, in theory.

A recent study, jointly produced by The University at Buffalo, California University at Thousand Oaks and University of Texas at Austin, shows that while men, in theory, want to date an intelligent woman, in practice, they will choose otherwise.

During a preliminary survey, researchers found, 86 percent of men said they would date a woman with higher intelligence.

However, the research team didn’t stop at just a survey.

In total, the group conducted six studies to determine whether or not men would actually date a more intelligent woman, and if a man’s perception of himself affects the desirability of smart woman.

The first two studies presented two separate groups of men with a hypothetical woman who had higher intelligence than they did.

The two groups of men found this hypothetical woman intriguing and rated her as desirable.

In the next set of studies, the men met face-to-face with a woman who either performed better or worse on an intelligence test than they did. They were then asked to place their chairs across from the woman and take a survey rating how attractive and desirable they found her.

The men who were paired with a smarter woman tended to place their chairs farther away from the woman, and also rated her as less attractive, saying they would not be interested in dating her.

The interesting takeaway here is, when a woman is more intelligent in theory, men find her intriguing. When she’s physically present, however, men find a smarter woman much less desirable.

In the latter part of the study, researchers were curious: Does a man’s self-perception change when in the presence of a smarter woman?

While sitting next to the woman, the men were told she scored higher than them on an intelligence test and asked  the men to then take a survey evaluating how masculine they felt in accordance with how attractive they found the woman.

The results showed men felt significantly less masculine when in the presence of a more intelligent woman.

So, to sum it all up, it’s time to throw out your idea of the perfect partner. You don’t always know what you want in a love interest, even if you think you do.

Oh, and, if you’re trying to justify why you haven’t heard from him, consider this: You’re too damn smart.
