10 Ways To Stay Sane When You’re In The Midst Of Being Ghosted
We’ve all been there. You just started dating someone, and things are going well. Then, all of the sudden, you are given the silent treatment. There are no more texts, no more Snaps, nothing.
You start to replay the last time you hung out. “Did I come across as too needy? Was my hair on fleek? Did I forget to wear deodorant? Were my legs too hairy?”
The truth is, you thought the person was way more into you than you were into him or her. All of a sudden, you have gone from the chill one in this casual dating situation to a legitimate, crazy stalker person.
Your friends are beginning to worry about you. It’s not fun hanging out with you when all you do is bitch about how the person has new updates on Instagram and Snapchat, but did not directly send anything to you.
So instead of waiting by your phone, I suggest distracting yourself to the point where you don’t even remember if you’re in the game at all. Here are some ways to keep yourself busy and benefit your life at the same time:
1. Read a book.
It’s something we all enjoy, but we never have the “time” to do it. So, make the time for it. Nothing is more relaxing than curling up with your favorite tea and a book.
2. Prepare your grocery shopping list for the week.
I’ve learned that going to the grocery store with a clear agenda helps to avoid stressful shopping situations, and it also keeps you from spending more money than you would if you were letting your stomach influence you.
3. Go to the gym.
We all know the benefits of exercise, so I’m not going to waste your time by preaching about them. They are one of the better methods of handling sexual frustration and anxiety.
You deserve a good workout. “I wish I hadn’t burned all those calories and stared intensely at the hottie lifting,” said no one ever.
4. Catch up with an old friend.
Feeling like you’re not getting the attention you deserve is the perfect catalyst to reconnect with an old friend you haven’t given the time of day to. Making plans is motivation enough. (Just don’t complain to your friend about your love life the whole time.)
5. Color in your new adult coloring book.
Adult coloring books are the new, cheap replacement to therapy. Even therapists recommend getting yourself one of these to help you relax, unwind and color your stresses away.
6. Explore a new hobby.
Ever thought about stepping up your cooking game? Seize the moment and sign up for a cooking class. There are so many fun activities that beat staring at your phone. Carpe diem.
7. Get hooked onto a new TV show.
Why not use the extra time on your hands to watch that show you heard is really good, but you just didn’t want to put the effort into watching it?
8. Attend a networking event.
This is definitely an ambitious move, but it’s also an impressive one. Dust off your business cards, throw on your favorite interview outfit and put yourself out there in a completely different context than the dating world.
Challenging yourself will only make you stronger. Besides, who knows who you will meet?
9. Volunteer.
One fun way to feel good about yourself is by doing good. Dig deep, and think about what’s important to you.
Figure out the best way to give your time toward your cause. Attending volunteer events can also be a great way to meet people with similar interests.
10. Plan your next vacation.
Having fun things to look forward to is always great, and there’s nothing better than proactively planning out your next adventure.
