An Insane Amount Of Millennials Have Confessed To Being Ghosted
Ghosting is the Millennial version of moving to a new country and changing your identity. Because, you know, that was the only way you could avoid someone back when you had to actually interact with people.
It’s a legitimate problem Gen Y faces when trying to navigate the app-centric dating game. According to a survey conducted by PlentyofFish, one of the many popular dating apps, as many as 80 percent of Millennials have been ghosted. That means 4 out of 5 people have been unceremoniously dumped by a weasel at some point.
PlentyofFish surveyed 800 Americans and Canadians between the ages of 18 and 33, and while the rate of ghosting sounds pretty insane, it’s actually not all that surprising.
One anonymous online dater put it this way,
It’s the fear of missing out on the thing, or person, that is coming next. Because it’s so easy to swipe or like new people, whatever’s next could be better, and it’s easier to just dip out. It may be a little mean, but we’re dating; it’s not like we’re in a relationship.
That opinion may be more common than we’d like to admit, considering 15 percent of the survey’s participants confessed to scheduling more than one date per night.
Consider it one more valid reason to have a quarter-life crisis.
