Dove’s Newest Campaign Challenges Beauty Standards Like Never Before
Over the past few years, Dove has been a pioneer in the body positive movement as it challenges the norms of the beauty industry and encourages people to be themselves with a myriad of thought-provoking campaigns.
Whether it’s preaching the idea that every women is beautiful in her own way or encouraging women to love their curves, Dove has sent a pretty clear message that women shouldn’t live their lives based on the expectations of others.
If you happened to be a big fan of the company’s previous body positive campaigns, you’ll be glad to know that Dove just created a video showcasing its latest #MyBeautyMySay slogan, and it’s pretty damn awesome, to say the least.
The #MyBeautyMySay video challenges beauty and gender standards like never before by featuring the stories of a variety of remarkable women, ranging from kickboxing champ Heather Hardy to genderqueer model Rain Dove.
While all of these women have similar stories about being judged based on their appearances, judgment and societal pressure haven’t stopped any of these ladies from embracing their true selves and loving their own unique beauty, “flaws” and all.
According to Dove’s marketing director, Jennifer Bremner,
Somewhere along the way, it has become the norm to judge women based on their appearance. Dove created #MyBeautyMySay because we believe a woman’s beauty should not be used to belittle her achievements — instead, her beauty should be celebrated on her terms. We want women to challenge this behavior that has unfortunately become commonplace in our society.
