Highlighter Is The One Thing You Should Add To Your Summer Beauty Routine
This summer, all that really matters in terms of your makeup routine is that slightly dewy, shimmery glow on your cheekbones. This highlighting technique is the latest beauty trend for the summer.
Forget the thick liquid foundation that has been clogging your pores the past six months, and move on to a more natural look. Highlighter is the perfect tool for day to night wear, as it illuminates your cheekbones without the full contour effect that really only works out well for Kim Kardashian.
Going for the natural-looking highlighting technique will make your skin look healthy for the summer. Lightly bronzed cheeks are the skin trend for summer 2016, and trust me when I say you will not regret hopping on the bandwagon.
We are all tired of being pale in the winter and of having to apply heavy foundation to make ourselves look somewhat alive when walking into class or the office. It is officially time to throw those foundation products aside and move on to a less-is-more makeup look. It’s quicker, easier and generally requires less products and less effort.
The latest beauty trend is what everyone is referring to as “non-touring.” Non-touring provides a sculpting of the face without the overly defined lines and loads of products layered onto your skin. Celebs like Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner have mastered this look, making it seem as if they’re not wearing any makeup at all.
What you want to go for is a soft, glowing look. Ditch your concealer, clumpy black mascara and bold eyeshadow and opt for a lightweight, tinted moisturizer instead. If you are a die-hard mascara wearer, try out a shade of brown instead to make your look even more natural.
You can also highlight your eyes by applying a bright, shimmering shadow to the inner corners of your eyes. This will make your eyes pop and complement your highlighting technique. You can also apply a nude colored lipstick or lipgloss to complete the summery, natural look.
In the summer, you tend to spend more of your time outside, so you want to wear lighter colored makeup on not just your skin, but your eyes as well. So instead of the heavy contoured look, your face will look soft, yet bright and glowy.
To start, find a primer that is suitable for your skin type. If you have oily skin, you want to stay away from the matte primers and go for one that has a luminous shimmer. You then want to use a tinted moisturizer or BB cream instead of a full-coverage foundation. If you have problematic skin, use a dab of concealer for spot treatment.
The last step in this natural-looking beauty routine, and obviously the most important, is the highlighter. You want to choose one that flatters your skin tone. So if you have fair skin, go for one with a lighter pink undertone so your skin doesn’t turn out orange. If your skin is warmer or darker, go for a golden bronze highlighter.
Brush the highlighter on the parts of your face where light would hit: above the cheekbones, under the brow bone and down the bridge of your nose are the spots you want to focus on the most.
If you need some serious inspiration for highlighting, check out Glossier’s new highlighting process called “Haloscope” ($22), which is a crystal-infused, sheen highlighter that is perfect for highlighter newbies. The beauty experts at Glossier recommend highlighting the section of your face known as the “half-halo,” which is the area from the brow bone to your cheekbones.
Illuminating this area will give you that cheekbone glow you have long been envying.
