Tokyo now has a photo-op Attack on Titan ATM in one of its biggest anime shopping centers

The franchise, now far too big to be just an anime and manga, is expanding into a banking tie-up.

Anime fans know that if they’re after the latest and greatest anime merchandise, Tokyo’s Akihabara neighborhood is a great place to look for it. Across town, though, in the Nakano district, you’ll find another bastion of otaku culture in the Nakano Broadway shopping center.

Nakano Broadway’s multiple floors house a vast and eclectic variety of pop culture artifacts, and its stores are slightly more focused on obscure and historic collection pieces than their counterparts in Akihabara. As such, it can be hard to estimate how much cash to bring with you on a trip to Nakano Broadway, because you never know if you’ll suddenly come across a special open-eye animation cell, soundtrack CD, out-of-print manga volume, or some other personal Holy Grail that you’d given up hope of ever finding.

Thankfully, there’s an ATM in the building, called the Seven Bank ATM. Administered by the parent company of convenience store chain 7-Eleven, the Seven Bank ATM accepts cards from dozens of major banks, and since this one in particular is so often used to facilitate anime-related purchases, it’s recently gotten a makeover saluting mega-hit Attack on Titan.

In collaboration with the long-awaited second season of the anime getting underway last Saturday, the Nakano Broadway Seven Bank ATM is now decorated with Attack on Titan imagery. Overhead you’ll see series protagonist Eren and Titan-slaying scene-stealer Levi with their blades out, and there’s another bit of creative artwork hiding to the left of the machine, on the portion of the wall indicated by the arrow and the large-font Japanese text warning “Beware of Titans in the vicinity.”

If you stand on the foot marks placed on the floor and take a flash photo of the darkened patch of the wall, you’ll see a Titan magically appear in the captured image, referencing the giant hinted at being concealed within the walls of humanity’s stronghold city at the end of Attack on Titan’s first season.

The special Attack on Titan decorations are scheduled to be up until June 30, at which time the weather should be hot enough that Nakano Broadway’s famous ice cream will be as tempting a reason to withdraw cash as all the cool anime merch to be found in the building.
