New mystery meat in the Mystery Meat Festival Cup Noodle【Taste Test】
Ten times the meat, twice the mystery in Nissin’s latest dehydrated riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma, inside a plastic pot.
Finally, just when we thought we thought we had those food scientists at Cup Noodle-makers Nissin sussed, they turned the tables on us. Last time, after an exhaustive interrogation session, lasting several seconds, we got them to spill the (soy) beans on what goes into the mystery meat; pork and soybeans. Now, they’ve done it again, but releasing a new Cup Noodle variant, with two types of mystery meat, the Mystery Meat Festival Cup Noodle.
▼ It’s a party in your mouth and you don’t know who’s invited.
Alongside the dark brown meaty chunks, there’s a new variant, the pale brown “white mystery meat” chunks! Which would be much more of a mystery if the meat content wasn’t helpfully explained on the back of the packaging.
According to the packaging the pork-based mystery meat has been joined by… chicken-based mystery meat, the same chicken meat that can be found in the Chili Tomato Cup Noodle.
▼ At least now we know, or think we do, that it’s not soylent green.
▼ After adding the hot water, the quantity of meat is such that the noodles are hidden from view, mystery meat
as far as the eye can see.
▼ Delve a little deeper, and the reassuring sight of noodles appears.
As for the taste of this meaty monstrosity? It has all the classic taste of Cup Noodle but with more in the way of chunky goodness and meat sweats, although that may just have been us. Finally, there’s a Cup Noodle that contains two of the main food groups, bird and mammal. Cup Noodle and questionable meat lovers rejoice! Unless they sell out, like last time.
