All hospitalized Kyoto Animation arson victims’ lives are no longer in danger, doctors say
Some remain in intensive care units two months after attack on Fushimi anime studio.
It’s now been two months since the arson attack on Kyoto Animation. At the time of the attack, which took place at approximately 10:30 on a weekday morning, 70 employees were inside the company’s studio in the town of Fushimi, Kyoto Prefecture, and only one of them managed to escape without injury, as the blaze was accelerated by the attacker’s use of multiple canisters of gasoline he’d purchased directly before the attack and wheeled to the scene using a hand cart..
35 people perished at the scene or within a day, but doctors are now saying that the remaining 34 Kyoto Animation employees who were in the building are expected to live. While a number remain in intensive care units receiving treatment for severe burns and other conditions, Japan’s Kyodo news organization reports that a source connected to the criminal investigation into the attack says that medical caregivers say that none of the patients lives are in danger any longer.
The encouraging news comes just under two weeks after the premiere of the Violet Evergarden: Eternity and the Auto Memories Doll anime feature film, Kyoto Animation’s first major release since the attack and also its first public announcement of the complete list of victims who lost their lives in the fire.
