“Painter x Lyrics: Flower Edition” art book turns music lyrics into gorgeous illustrations

Lovers of Japanese music and art rejoice, because the second volume of the Painter x Lyrics (絵師×歌詞) art book series went on sale on November 20!

Painter x Lyrics (絵師×歌詞 in kanji) promises to be a treat for anyone into art, illustration, and the Japanese music scene. 50 popular Japanese illustrators from a variety of literary and video game backgrounds came together to participate in the creation of this stunning art book. Each artist selected a song from a diverse array of modern J-Pop songs, anime tunes, and classics from earlier decades, using his or her imagination to turn the song’s lyrics into a visual representation of the feelings evoked within the lyrics.

While the previous volume of this series published in May was centered around the common theme of “Rain,” this edition draws inspiration from the theme of “Flowers,” so all of the songs featured in the book are related to flowers in some way. The pages also provide descriptions of various types of flowers and their significant meanings.
