Black “Ninja Takoyaki” is Japan’s latest must-try cuisine from Osaka
The black octopus balls are available at only one popular tourist location in Osaka.
Takoyaki fried octopus balls are as synonymous to Osaka as black-suited ninja are to Japan. So when we think about it, we really don’t know why it’s taken so long for someone to come up with the amazing new concept that is “Ninja Takoyaki”, with jet-black octopus balls that scream “Japan” and “ninja”!

Produced by Kukuru, one of Osaka’s most popular and famous takoyaki stores, the new specialty is made from a batter containing squid ink, which gives it its distinctive jet-black colour. Half-dozen servings of “Kuro-tako” or “Black Octopus” will retail for 600 yen (US$5.92), while 8-packs will set you back 750 yen. And for some light refreshment, the “Ninja Takoyaki” food truck will also serve up some special shinobi-themed drinks like “Ninja Ale” as well.
The new Ninja Takoyaki food truck, which had its grand opening on 1 October, can be found at only one location: on the grounds of Osaka Castle. So next time you’re paying a visit to the famous tourist spot, be sure to keep an eye out for the distinctive black truck to get a taste of Osaka’s next big specialty!
