Number fortune-telling: What your birth date can tell you about your own shortcomings

09:49 cherishe 0 Comments

In order to change yourself for the better, one Japanese website is offering a simple way to identify your own faults based on your date of birth.

It’s hard to believe that the new year is almost upon us again. For many people, the start of another year signals that it’s time to make a new set of resolutions to become a better and more successful person in the months to come.

But in order to reach your ultimate potential, you must first be able to look at yourself objectively and identify your own faults so that you can change yourself for the better. Some people no doubt already know where their weaknesses lie, while others may need close family or friends to explicitly spell them out.

If you’re having trouble identifying your own areas of weakness, one Japanese website may be able to help you with its simple method of analyzing your birth date to find your corresponding shortcomings. It’s no secret that Japan loves to predict fortunes based on a variety of criteria, such as interpreting personalities from blood type or astrological signs, and this “number prediction” method falls along similar lines.

Don’t believe in such simple fortune-telling “hogwash”? It’s still fun to give it a go just to see how accurate the method is at predicting your own traits!

Here’s the simple way to identify your own faults:

1. Write out your full date of birth using numbers only.

  • The order of the month/day/year is irrelevant, as long as you write out the full year.
  • For example, a person whose birthday is on December 20, 1991 would write 12/20/1991, or 12201991 without slashes.

2. Identify which numbers between 1-9 are missing from your birth date.

  • Ignore any zeroes in your set of numbers.
  • For example–we can see that the numbers 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 do not appear in the set of numbers 12201991 for someone whose birthday is on December 20, 1991.

3. Scroll down to read what each of the missing numbers signifies about your personal shortcomings.

A piece of cake, right? Okay, now go ahead and calculate your own missing numbers, then see what each of those missing numbers says about you and how you can fix those faults!

If you’re missing the number 1:

You excel at being considerate towards others, but you’re not very good at thinking or acting independently. Similarly, you have a tendency to do exactly what others tell you to do, which could lead to some unbalanced relationships. Try not to let others influence you as much. Note: Only people born after the year 2000 will fall under this category.

If you’re missing the number 2:

You’re a bit spontaneous and self-centered, and perhaps sometimes a bit reckless. At times you may be what is referred to as “KY” (kuki o yomenai) in Japanese–someone who “can’t read the air;” i.e., who can’t take a hint or pick up on social cues. Try to work on understanding others’ feelings more.

▼ “You just can’t take a hint, can you?”

1YouTube/Tiger FunnyWorks

If you’re missing the number 3:

People missing the number 3 are extremely stubborn and hate losing. They may be a bit impulsive or act before fully thinking things out. If you fall under this category, be careful that your spontaneity doesn’t cause any misunderstandings.

If you’re missing the number 4:

You probably have a hard time working slowly but steadily at goals, losing focus especially when there are more enjoyable options at hand. Don’t be easily swayed by your emotions, especially when it comes to managing money.

▼ Slow and steady wins the race.

2Everyday Cheapskate

If you’re missing the number 5:

Indecisiveness is the name of the game here. You tend to consider too many things at once, which then causes you to take a long time to make any final decisions. Focus on trusting your instincts to make decisions which you’ll stick with.

If you’re missing the number 6:

If you’re missing the number 6, you have a hard time revealing your true self to others. You may also experience anxiety around strangers or have trouble interacting with the opposite sex. It’s likely that you were easily influenced by events during your childhood and by the actions of your family members. Work on not being afraid to express your own ideas in the presence of others.

▼ Don’t be afraid to break out of your shell (P.S. Not all girls have cooties)!

Taken by the Wind

If you’re missing the number 7:

You’re generally pessimistic about life and have no aspirations or motivational drive. Yet despite the negativity, you somehow manage to get by with unnaturally good luck, and people still seem to gravitate to your side. It wouldn’t hurt to be a bit more optimistic at times!

If you’re missing the number 8:

Laziness and procrastination should be familiar words to you. Furthermore, you tend to perceive things intuitively, and not so much using logic. Try to work a bit more consistency into your daily life, and don’t make everything out to be so much of a hassle.

▼ Yeah, we get it, Shikamaru–life’s nothing but a drag.

If you’re missing the number 9:

You’re exceedingly realistic to the point that you hate the thought of chasing after ideals. You think that it’s pointless to aspire to change yourself; maintaining the present state of things is the most important thing in life. It’s also difficult for you to accept different values, and you tend to make only surface-level relationships. Work on being more flexible with your way of thinking. Note: Again, this category is only possible for people born in the year 2000 or after.

How accurately did this “number fortune-telling” hit the nail on the head? Nonsense or not, it makes for a fun party game!

* 1 tsp black pepper
* 1 cup bread crumbs
* 1/4 cup parmesan cheese
* 2 eggs
* 1/2 cup whole milk
* 1/2 cup chopped parsley

In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, cinnamon, and vanilla, and pour over the cinnamon rolls. Pour one cup of maple syrup over the mixture. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25 minutes. Top with the icing from the cinnamon rolls.

Cheesy Bacon Egg Cups

Cheesy Bacon Egg Cups

Here's what you need to make six bacon and egg cups:
* 3 slices of bread
* 3 Tbsp. shredded cheese
* 6 slices of bacon, cooked
* 6 eggs
* Salt and pepper

With a jar or cookie cutter, cut two circles into each piece of bread. Place in muffin tin cups. Wrap a piece of cooked bacon along the edge of each muffin cup — make sure the bacon is JUST cooked and still warm, so it doesn’t break or crumble. Sprinkle half Tbsp. of cheese into each cup, then top with an egg. Season with salt and pepper, and bake at 400°F (204°C) for 15 minutes (longer for firmer yolk). Top with green onion.

NEW GAME! author tweets teaser site link for anime adaptation site

Moe-style anime NEW GAME! gets new official website with TV broadcast and cast reveal info.

New Game! is a four-panel manga series by Shotaro Tokuno, centered around recent high school graduate Aoba Suzuki and her new position at an all-female video game company called Eaglejump.

After receiving high praise for its cute, engaging characters and a realistic look into how the Japanese video game industry works, the series was green-lighted in last October for an anime adaptation that will begin broadcasting on television from March 27, 2016.

On December 29, Tokuno tweeted a link to a teaser website for the series with the broadcast time, channel, and character list.

▼ “A teaser website for the NEW GAME! anime went up today, so please check it out…!”

Unfortunately those eager to find out which voice actresses will be playing each character will have to wait until the big reveal at Anime Japan 2016, Japan’s largest anime convention, going on at Tokyo Big Sight from March 25–27.

Clever ad publicly shames commuters in real-time for “smartphone walking” in train station【Video】

06:13 cherishe 0 Comments

A metro operator set up a monitoring device and announcement system to single out individual commuters caught using their smartphones while walking near escalators or passing trains.

Texting while walking, smartphone walking, however you’d like to put it, is a huge problem in Japan and much of the developed world as we increasingly become emotionless robots practically neurally connected to our handheld devices. Accidents can and do happen to people distracted by their smartphones in places like crosswalks and, especially, train stations, where myriad hazards like passing trains, escalators and other people demand explicit attention.

スクリーンショット 2015-12-30 9.54.24

While most train operators in Japan have been combating the dangerous trend with signs and posters advising the dangers of “aruki sumaho,” the Kansai area’s Hanshin Electric Railways has taken it a step further with this clever commercial.

The commercial begins with producers setting up a camera system and microphones on a train platform. Then, the team lies in wait; watching for unwary commuters using their smartphones while walking.

スクリーンショット 2015-12-30 9.53.36

At this point, the commercial’s producers use the speaker system and video screen to explicitly call out the offending commuter with lines like, “You there, in the pink cardigan. Walking while texting is dangerous!” and “There is currently a mother pushing a stroller while playing with her smartphone on the platform.”

In Japan’s “shame culture,” it’s easy to see how being specifically singled out for everyone to see could be an especially effective reminder that the practice of playing around on your device while navigating the subway is inherently dangerous. In fact, some of the people featured in the video look downright horrified.

Check out the ad here:

スクリーンショット 2015-12-30 9.54.05

Unfortunately, here’s where we have to break down some of the illusion of this creative ad: Japan has extremely strict privacy laws when it comes to filming people in public, so anyone whose face isn’t blurred out (the commuters accused of walking while smartphoning) are either paid extras or signed a waiver after being filmed. And, lo and behold, the end of the video features a short disclaimer admitting the use of hired extras.

While knowing the horrified reactions of being caught are just amateur acting kind of diminishes the message a little bit, we’re definitely hoping the ad catches eyes and puts a stop to accidents before they happen. Although, with the ad being on YouTube and all, we’re pretty sure a lot of people are going to be seeing it on their smart device while, uh… walking through the subway.
