Ryuk from Death Note performs Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen in official release video
Nobody is happier with a Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen than the apple-loving owner of the Death Note notebook.
We’ve seen some strange collaborations from Japan in the past but this latest one to come out of the country is one of the most weirdly wonderful ones we’ve seen! Take a look at Ryuk, the Shinigami “Death Spirit” from the Death Note hit movie franchise, dancing up a storm in his very own version of the PPAP music video, released yesterday by the Death Note Light Up The World official channel.
While we would’ve liked to hear Ryuk himself singing the song, there’s still plenty to love about the new video, and with the computer-generated Shinigami currently appearing in Death Note Light Up The World, released in Japan on 29 October, there’s no better way to bring some attention to his new movie than by having him jump on the PPAP bandwagon. Especially given that the character has a well-known fondness for apples!
The video uses state-of-the-art technology to perfectly replicate the moves of Piko Taro, the original star of the clip. The work is so well done that once you’ve seen Ryuk moving his hips and limbs to the music in Piko Taro’s distinctive dance style, it’s something you’ll never be able to forget.
At the end of the short clip, when Ryuk uses the pen-pineapple-apple-pen to write in his Death Note notebook, we realise this is actually a genius collaboration we should’ve seen coming!
With “Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen” recently being awarded a Guinness World Record for the shortest song to ever appear on the US Billboard Hot 100 charts, and a new cafe in Tokyo dedicated to the catchy tune and its hilarious star, there’s no stopping the force of the PPAP empire. We can’t wait to see where the crazy song takes us to next!
