This is one of the best value-for-money lucky bags on the market this year.

With nine stores around the country, Ikea is one of the most popular places to go to in Japan for reasonably priced household goods and furnishings. One of the best things about the Swedish brand’s Japanese locations is the fact that we get to enjoy New Year’s fukubukuro “lucky bags”, meaning there’s even more value-for-money to look forward to at the start of each new year. Following on from our lucky fukubukuro hauls from 2016, we were there for the store’s first day of sales on 2 January, and following the recommendation of staff, we picked up their Kitchen Goods Lucky Bag for 2,000 yen (US$17.10).

If you think about the fact that the RIMFORSA tablet stand usually retails for 1,499 yen on its own, that means everything else in the lucky bag comes to a total of 501 yen!

If that’s not value for money, we don’t know what is! Because it’s a lucky bag, the store claims that contents may differ slightly from bag to bag, but the total cost of goods in each is said to come to 6,000 yen. Given the volume of goods and its awesome value, this is definitely a fukubukuro we’ll be looking forward to purchasing again next year!
