Zelda fan’s Sheikah Slate makes charging his phone into a scene from Breath of the Wild【Video】
The phone’s case is one-of-a-kind, but the charger can be yours, Hero of Hyrule with a low battery.
While their story lines often have only the loosest or most theoretical connections, each game in Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda franchise takes place in a rustic, medieval world. However, in the latest installment, Breath of the Wild, the Sheikah Slate is clearly meant to be a stand-in for a smartphone. It’s got a camera, real-time map, schedule organizer (in the form of its categorized quest lists), and even lets you look up information about every animal, plant, monster, or magic item you’ll face or acquire during your adventure.
With the Sheikah Slate being so close in function to something we have in real life, Japanese Twitter user, and massive Zelda fan, @caoki8 set out to craft a Sheikah Slate case for his smartphone, and he did an amazing job, even applying detailed light and weathering effects to make it look like the ancient artifact it is in-game.

However, while Zelda’s protagonist Link never needs to worry about the power source of Sheikah Slate (assuming the player’s Switch still has some life left in its battery), @caoki8’s smartphone obviously needs periodic recharging. Luckily, he’s now got a way to do that without braking the awesome Zelda theming, as seen in this video.

@caoki8 simply lays his Sheikah Slate down on a magic circle, and mystic runes light up. As the same musical cue that accompanies the Sheikah Slate acquiring new map data in Breath of the Wild plays, @caoki8’s phone is resurrected through the mysterious arcane ways of wireless charging.
Fellow Zelda fans were filled with admiration and, of course, jealousy. However, there’s no need to make like King of Thieves Ganon and try to steal @caoki8’s charger by forceful or deceptive means, since he didn’t make the charging pad himself, but rather ordered it through Amazon.
The charging pad is offered on Amazon’s Japanese site here by the company Dirolvon, and it appears to be similar, if not identical, to the one sold by U.S.-based RegisBox, which sells its charger here.
▼ Amazon is asking 6,990 yen (US$63), while RegisBox charges US$64.99. Neither company provides a conversion price for Rupees or monster parts.
Combined with @caoki8’s custom Sheikah Slate case, the pad turns the everyday hassle of charging his phone into a quick call-back to one of the most enjoyable games ever made. There is however, one drawback.
For the charging pad to do its thing, the phone’s screen must be facing downward, which means that @caoki8 has to flip his phone around in the case, and then rotate it back again before he can use it once it’s charged,
Still, it definitely looks cool, and for a guy whose other projects include replicating the Master Sword and Majora’s Mask…

…we’re sure @caoki8 is still intensely satisfied with his new phone-charging setup.
