Science Says Victoria’s Secret Perfume Is Pretty Much Just Fancy Bug Spray
Bug spray isn’t attractive. Nobody likes it; nobody likes wearing it. It’s are a necessary evil. And they all smell horrible, which makes you want to walk around with a tissue over your nose all summer long.
Smelling like OFF! was a staple of our childhoods. Remember when your parents would tell you not to wear any perfumes that were too sweet-smelling since it would definitely result in bug bites? Well, now science will let us smell nice AND repel the nasty bloodsuckers simultaneously. THANK YOU, SCIENCE.
According to a study done by New Mexico State University, spraying some Victoria’s Secret Bombshell perfume all over your body will keep those pesky bugs away for good. Personally, all bugs creep me out. So this is fantastic news.
The researchers tested the effectiveness of different repellents and even decided to add some perfume into the mix, maybe just for giggles?
The researchers placed the mosquitoes into a Y-shaped tube, and one adventurous soul put his or her hands at each end of said tube. In each round of the test, one hand had nothing on it and the other hand was either sprayed with perfume or real bug repellent.
There must be something in Victoria’s Secret perfume that mosquitoes just don’t like because they stayed the hell away from the hand covered in it just as much as they steered clear from the actual bug spray.
Honestly, this couldn’t get more awesome. Who doesn’t want to smell great while also warding off those obnoxious little things? It is summer, after all, and the season of tank tops and shorts would be much more fun if we didn’t have to worry about concealing nasty bug bites.
Even though this sounds good, I’m still a little confused as to how this perfume could potentially be a mosquito repellent when it doesn’t even contain DEET (a chemical commonly used in bug sprays).
Even Stacy Rodriguez, a research assistant in the study, seemed a little mystified. She said in a statement,
There was some previous literature that said fruity, floral scents attracted mosquitoes and to not wear those. It was interesting to see that the mosquitoes weren’t actually attracted to the person that was wearing the Victoria’s Secret perfume — they were repelled by it.
Now, even though this perfume might be a little pricier than your average drugstore spray, it sounds like the bugs did not find it as cute and flirty as your friends might, so this could be your best bet.
I guess Victoria’s actual secret is that the company is filled to the brim with geniuses who have found all the answers we’re looking for in life. I mean, first they make our boobs look great and now their perfumes are protecting our skin. Will wonders never cease?!
