As we get ready to say goodbye to 2018, we say hello to Starbucks’ limited-edition holiday range of drinks and collectibles, and this week we set out to greet their latest release, the White Chocolate Snow Frappuccino.

Our Japanese-language reporter K. Masami, who knows a thing or two about Starbucks drinks, was keen to treat her taste buds to the joys of “Christmas in a cup”, so she decided to go all out with the tasting by ordering both the hot and cold versions when they were released on 22 November.

The cold Frappuccino was luxuriously delicious, with whipped cream, marshmallow, and white chocolate sauce designed to conjure up images of a sparkling snowscape on Christmas Day.

The silver chocolate pearls on top provided a nice crunchy element to the creamy drink, while the small marshmallow pieces added a delightfully chewy texture to every other mouthful.

The hot version also featured the same topping, with the silver pearls resembling the glistening sparkles seen on freshly fallen snow. This one was incredibly warming, like a rich and creamy white hot chocolate, which would be perfect for a cold winter’s day.

A collection of limited-edition holiday drinkware also went on sale at Starbucks on 22 November, and Masami couldn’t bear to leave without purchasing this adorable polar bear glass for 2,600 yen (US$23.04). She filled it up with some of the hot White Chocolate Snow and fell head-over-heels for the cute sight, vowing to drink milk from the polar bear every day this winter.

The White Chocolate Snow is available in Short through to Venti sizes for 440-560 yen (US$3.88-$4.94), while the White Chocolate Snow Frappuccino is available in a tall size for 580 yen. Both drinks, and the limited-edition drinkware range, will only be available until Christmas Day, so be sure to get in quick to avoid missing out!
