From mere sketches to full blown anime, this is history in the making.

Years ago, Japanese illustrator Kazuhara Kina gained a steady following on Twitter when he began sketching high school girls seen on the streets of Japan. Called the “Daily High School Girls Project”, it was a series of illustrations depicting their daily lives in uniform.

As his collection of sketches grew, so did the number of his fans, and now an anime based on his creation has been confirmed. The very first episode with the codename “#0 Pilot Animation” is slated for a 2017 release, with the series running well into next year. As Kazuhara will be supervising the character designs, fans can’t wait to see his static sketches of uniformed schoolgirls enter the dynamic world of anime.

“The everyday lives of high school girls begin.”

To commemorate the anime adaptation, the project will be showcased on August 5 at the National Entertainment Festival in downtown Yanagase of Gifu Prefecture. Event visitors are in for a treat, as they can vote in voice actress auditions held on that day, with twenty lucky visitors each receiving a poster autographed by both voice actress Emi Hirayama and creator Kazuhara Kina.

A Daily High School Girls Project exhibition will be held in the same location from August 5 to 6, and fans can take this opportunity to nab an autograph from the famed illustrator.

Whether you’re a school uniform aficionado or just touring around Gifu Prefecture, why not pay it a visit? In the meantime, we’ll wait patiently for the anime and acquaint ourselves better with an exhaustive guide to Japanese school uniforms.
